About Fire Chief Stewart

Damon V. Stewart became the City of Collinsville Fire Chief on October 1, 2021. He served as the department's Assistant Fire Chief for 17 years and spent 13 years with Gainesville Fire / Rescue prior to becoming the City of Collinsville’s first fulltime paid Fire Chief. A native Collinsville resident, Chief Stewart joined the Collinsville Fire Department in 1990. During his 30 plus years of service, he has held the ranks of Firefighter, Fire Engineer, Fire Captain and Assistant Fire Chief / Fire Marshal. He brings extensive education and experience of the department into his role.

Chief Stewart’s career has been strongly focused on firefighter training and departmental training program management. Chief Stewart is well respected by both firefighters and officers of the area Departments throughout north Texas and is known for his expertise in Special Operations and Training.  Chief Stewart’s top priority is health and safety, while improving the apparatus fleet for the Department. His plans are to work with the Mayor, City Council, and Firefighters to do everything possible to make sure all of our personnel go home safely to their families and live a long & healthy life. 

Chief Stewart has developed a 5-Year Strategic Plan for the years 2023 through 2028 that addresses the future of the community and fire department. The Strategic Plan includes ten identified goals for the period. These goals were divided into four categories to help organize the goals and objectives.

CATEGORY #1 – STANDARDS AND TRAINING

Ensure Collinsville Fire Department services meet or exceed recognized state and international standards. Achieve consistent, safe, and effective performance in all areas of operations and management through a comprehensive training program.

CATEGORY #2 – FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

Acquire and maintain the facilities, equipment and apparatus that are needed to deliver service. Improve the efficiency and condition of department resources.

CATEGORY #3 – PROGRAMS

Achieve Texas Department of State Health Services – Advance Life Support status, Develop Community Risk Reduction & Life Safety Education Program, Maintain highest level of response in Special Operations – Safety, and Technical Rescue.

CATEGORY #4 – INTERNAL DEVELOPMENT

Increase professionalism and promote leadership at all levels within the Collinsville Fire Department. Hire staff to answer the demands of increased call volume, promote and develop health and wellness initiatives within the Collinsville Fire Department. Increase individual ownership in morale and organizational development.
